It takes about 4.5 hours from the Bay Area to get into the town of Mt Shasta City. The last hour, north of Redding, is beautiful as you drive up the Sacramento River gorge. Just before Dunsmuire, you can catch a glimpse of Castle Crags, a very energetic area to hike in.

Crystal Vibes
There are a lot of crystal stores in Mt Shasta. This one is my favorite:
The Crystal Room: https://www.facebook.com/crystalsmtshasta/
However, it can be really on the pricey side. This store has a good selection of affordable, pleasing rocks like Selenite.
